Sore throat is not an independent disease, but a symptom with different causes. Acute sore throat is often the prelude to a classic cold. It is usually triggered by viruses and is often manifested by a runny nose and a cough that is initially dry and later becomes phlegm. The following advice can help to get rid of the symptoms quickly:

Sore Throat Tips: Which Home Remedies Help?

Drink enough

So that the sore throat disappears again soon, you should drink plenty of fluids (unless there is nothing against it from a medical point of view). The liquid keeps the mucous membranes moist, and this makes it harder for cold viruses to penetrate deeper. In addition to water, medicinal teas from the pharmacy, which have a germicidal, anti-inflammatory and soothing effect, have proven their worth. We recommend, for example, tea blends made from sage, thyme, chamomile, marshmallow, mallow, buckhorn or Iceland moss, possibly enriched with a little honey or a dash of lemon juice. The heat also has a beneficial effect.

Gargle

There are also gargles and throat sprays that reduce the number of pathogens on the lining of the mouth. They contain antiseptic agents such as hexetidine or chlorhexidine. Chamomile or sage tea also inhibits inflammation and germs, they are suitable for gargling and rinsing after prolonged steeping.

Avoid Loud Speaking And Smoking

An intact mouth and throat mucosa offers the best protection against sore throat. Therefore, avoid active and passive smoking as well as unusually loud, strenuous speech. Make sure there is sufficient humidity in living areas.

Keep Your Throat Warm

One of the most important strategies to treat a sore throat is heat. Keep your neck and chest warm, for example with a scarf – even at night. Silk is particularly warming and comfortable to wear. Avoid drafts.

Steam Bath

In a steam bath, also known as inhalation, warm water vapor moistens the mucous membranes and promotes blood circulation. For a steam bath, water is heated and then placed in a bowl. Bend your towel-covered head over it. Breathe in the warm steam calmly through your mouth. Close your eyes when doing this, otherwise they could become irritated and make sure that the container is stable so that you do not scald yourself. Additives such as chamomile blossoms or table salt also promote the healing process.

Flaxseed Water For Gargling

Flaxseed water is suitable as a gentle gargling solution for a sore throat because it has a protective effect on the mucous membranes and thus relieves irritation and swallowing difficulties. For the gargling solution, the flaxseeds are soaked in lukewarm water for at least half an hour and then filtered with a hair sieve. Gargle 3 times a day.

Ginger

Ginger has an anti-pain and anti-inflammatory effect. Cut a thumb-thick piece of ginger into small slices and then dice. Then the ginger pieces are placed in a tea strainer and poured over 500ml of boiling water. Steeping the ginger tea for half an hour to an hour produces a strong, lukewarm solution that’s good for gargling. Gargle 3 times a day.
